Office Accountant

The Mountain Boot Company Ltd is a market leading distributor of premium outdoor and climbing brands including Scarpa, deuter, Grivel and Sea to Summit. We are seeking to appoint an Office Accountant to support the current Finance Department.

Established in 1995 the company has built an enviable reputation for best-in-class customer service. Back Office support is critical in maintaining this and the recent growth in the business has meant additional support to the current accounting team is crucial. Applicants will be expected to perform a number of roles and is ideally suited to someone looking to further their career in a commercial environment.

Working closely with the Finance Director from our Newcastle Headquarters, initial responsibilities will include.

  • Daily Reconciliations of Bank Accounts
  • Responsibility for the reconciliation of web sales and payments
  • Day to day support in the finance function including stock input, posting purchase invoices, updating, and posting sales invoices, credit card analysis and control
  • Support on month end and year-end Financial Accounts
  • Liaising with Customer Service to deal with and resolve invoice queries

It is expected that the role will develop over time and candidates will be expected to take on new tasks including

  • Foreign Currency hedging
  • VAT Returns (UK and Ireland)
  • Payroll Support

The above roles are not exhaustive. We are looking for someone who can turn their hand at anything and support the business where necessary.

The successful candidates will demonstrate

  • Excellent Office 365 skills
  • Experience of working within an accounting environment
  • Either studying for professional qualifications or qualified by experience
  • Experience in the outdoor industry is not a prerequisite but an appreciation of the outdoors is expected
  • Ability to work without supervision and to be a self-starter
  • A proven track record in delivering excellence in service
  • Strong organisational, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work calmly and make logical decisions under pressure

The business is offering an attractive salary linked to experience, supported with a generous package of benefits including pension scheme, private medical, death in service, staff allowance and account and FOC access to local climbing walls. Holiday allocation starts at at 22 days, rising to 27 with 5 years of service plus statutory days.
